Parks Attendant Seasonal Positions (Up to 10 positions)

The District is seeking motivated and reliable individuals to join our team as Parks Attendants for the 2026 summer season. Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the Parks Attendant is responsible for performing daily maintenance of municipal parks, green spaces, boulevards, cemetery grounds, and related facilities.
This role also supports District events, including event setup, takedown, and site cleanup.
DUTIES
- Maintain grassed areas through mowing, aerating, raking, seeding, trimming, edging, fertilizing and week control.
- Maintain shrubs, flower beds/baskets, and treed areas by cultivating, soil preparation, fertilizing and soil amendments.
- Install and monitor irrigation hoses and sprinklers.
- Weed and apply mulch to trees, shrub beds, and flower beds/baskets.
- Plant annuals, bulbs, shrubs, and trees in parks, open spaces, boulevards, cemetery grounds, and facilities.
- Prune trees and shrubs for health, appearance, and visibility.
- Operate small machinery and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Maintain tools, equipment, supplies, and work sites in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Provide courteous assistance and general information to park users and visitors.
- Assist with District events, including setups, takedowns and cleanup.
- Performs other assigned duties as assigned.
SKILLS
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgement
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with staff, community groups and the public
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Knowledge of park maintenance methods, practices, tools and equipment.
- Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
- General knowledge of parks and recreation programs and services is an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license, with a clean driver’s abstract
- Valid First Aid & CPR certificate (or willing to obtain)
- A clear police information check and vulnerable sector check (not required at time of application)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work in a team setting
All applicants must:
- Be available for the full term of employment (May through August)
- Be willing to work rotating day, afternoon, and weekend shifts
- Be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR training if required
- Successfully complete a police information and vulnerable sector check
- Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills
- Be a self-motivated and reliable

This is a 40 hour per week position, working rotating day, afternoon, and weekend shifts, at a rate of $20.60 per hour, from approximately May 11 to August 31, 2026. This position(s) is subject to funding.
