The Arena Attendant is responsible for performing duties associated with the Vanderhoof Arena. This position is required to perform ice-resurfacing operations, repair and maintain public spaces and facilities, assist in completing specific Capital Works Projects, and assist the public in their use of the facilities. The work involves carrying out a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work such as handyman duties, janitorial maintenance, equipment operation, and inventory management.
DUTIES
- Assist the public in their use of the facilities, such as by making ready all equipment required for events and activities, locking, and unlocking doors to facilities and dressing rooms, cleaning, renting out skates to the public, sharpening skates, carrying out set-up and take-down of equipment for events, and handling public enquiries.
- Change blades on ice resurfacing machine and performs minor maintenance and repair tasks as required.
- Monitors arena refrigeration plant.
- Conduct handyman duties, such as moving furniture and equipment, repairing arena board components, changing faucet washers and taps, replacing lamps and switch plates, and performing touch-up painting in specified areas.
- Perform janitorial duties such as unplugging sinks and toilets, removing snow from surrounding areas, maintaining janitorial equipment in good repair, and maintaining inventory records of janitorial supplies.
- Ensure equipment transactions are recorded and that equipment is returned to its correct location.
- Conduct ice flooding, patching, painting, building, repairing, measuring, and removal as required.
- Perform dasher board and glass installations and repairs.
- Operate the Zamboni and the Bobcat.
- Monitor all functions regarding safety and security of the public in relation to the operation and use of the facility.
- Maintain building security and conduct routine security-checks to monitor for risks and compromises.
- Maintain supplies, hand tools, equipment, and work sites to a level that keeps the workplace clean, safe, and in optimum running order.
- Performs other assigned duties as required.
SKILLS
- Safely and efficiently use a variety of tools and equipment to perform cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Maintain professionalism and discretion when working with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or a combination of education and experience.
- Ice Facility Operator certificate or willing and able to get certification.
- First Aid & CPR Training.
- Physically fit and enduring.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
- Clear police information and vulnerable sector checks.
- Clean driver’s abstract.
This is a casual unionized on-call position, at a pay rate of $33.69 per hour (2024 rate), filling shifts at the Vanderhoof Arena on evenings and weekends, and providing vacation and sick leave coverage, during operational hours throughout the winter.
