  Parks Attendant

Seasonal Positions

(Up to 10 positions)

 

Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the Parks Attendant will perform daily maintenance of all parks and green spaces including mowing, weed eating, gardening, watering, mulching, which includes the operation of small machinery.  This position also assists at all District events including setups, takedowns, and cleanup. 

DUTIES

  • Maintain grassed areas by mowing, aerating, raking, seeding, trimming, edging, spraying, and applying nutrients.
  • Manage shrubs, flowers, and treed areas by cultivating, rotavating, and applying nutrients and soil amendments.
  • Set-up irrigation hoses and sprinklers, perform weeding, and spread mulch for trees, flowers, and shrub beds.
  • Plant annuals, bulbs, shrubs, and trees in municipal parks, open spaces, boulevards, the cemetery, and facilities.
  • Maintain supplies, hand tools, equipment, and work sites to a level that keeps the workplace clean, safe, and in optimum running order.
  • Prune trees and shrubs throughout parks and boulevards for shape and visibility.
  • Participate in District events, including setups and takedowns. 
  • Performs other assigned duties as required.

SKILLS  

  • Ability to work independently and exercise independence in judgement
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff, external groups and organizations, including community groups and the public
  • Ability to perform rigorous outdoor physical work in inclement weather
  • Knowledge of parks and recreation policies, programs, and regulations
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in park maintenance
  • Provide valuable knowledge of our community and surrounding area for visitors and campers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license
  • First Aid & CPR certificate
  • A clean driver’s abstract
  • A clear police information and vulnerable sector check (not required at time of application)
  • Demonstrated communication skills & ability to function in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety standards

All applicants must:

  • Be able to commit to the full duration of the position (May through August)
  • Be willing to work rotating shifts and weekends
  • Be willing to undergo First Aid and CPR training if required
  • Be willing to submit to and pass a police information and vulnerable sector check
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Be a self-motivated team player
  • Possess excellent time management and multi-tasking skills

Due to grant and licensing requirements, all applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age. Please indicate that you meet these requirements at the time of application.

This is a 40 hour per week position, working rotating day, afternoon, and weekend shifts, at a rate of $20.60 per hour, from approximately May 12 to August 31, 2025. This position(s) is subject to funding.
