Parks Beautification Students

Seasonal Positions

(Up to 10 positions)

 

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Parks Beautification Students will perform daily maintenance of all parks and greenspace including mowing, weed eating, gardening, watering, mulching, which includes the operation of small machinery.  This position also assists at all District events including setups, takedowns, and cleanup. 

 

The Parks Beautification Students also assist with campground attendant duties, such as answering and responding to campground inquiries, taking reservations, checking guests in and out, collecting camping fees, cleaning washroom and the shower house, emptying garbage and campground site cleaning and maintenance, when necessary. 

 

SKILLS  

  • Ability to work independently and exercise independence in judgement
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff, external groups and organizations, including community groups and the general public
  • Ability to perform rigorous outdoor physical work in inclement weather
  • Knowledge of parks and recreation policies, programs, and regulations
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in park maintenance
  • Provide valuable knowledge of our community and surrounding area for visitors and campers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is mandatory
  • First Aid & CPR certificate is mandatory
  • A clean driver’s abstract
  • A clear police information and vulnerable sector check
  • Demonstrated communication skills & ability to function in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety standards

All applicants must:

  • Be able to commit to the full duration of the position (May through August)
  • Be willing to work rotating shifts and weekends
  • Be willing to undergo First Aid and CPR training if required
  • Be willing to submit to and pass a police information and vulnerable sector check
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Be a self-motivated team player
  • Possess excellent time management and multi-tasking skills

Due to grant and licensing requirements, all applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age. Please indicate that you meet these requirements at the time of application.

This is a 40 hour per week position, working rotating day, afternoon, and weekend shifts, at a rate of $20.60 per hour, from approximately May 13 to September 2, 2024. This position(s) is subject to funding.
